Meme ♊ Character survey of doom
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
A little over 6'4". He's not as ridiculously strong as most of the other characters in his canon, but he does work out so he's certainly not a pushover.
2. How old is he?
29, but he spent most of the last year unconscious.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He's usually pretty relaxed but doesn't slouch when standing. He will occasionally slouch while he's sitting, but only if he's not concentrating or working on something at the time.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Fairly fit. He's not going to be winning any Olympic medals but he can easily run and fight if he needs to. Overall health is pretty average; he gets sick sometimes but doesn't have any major problems. If taken straight out of the Devil Gundam he's so out of shape he can barely move, but I've been playing him post-death recently so he's basically been getting a shiny new body that hasn't been stuck immobile in a cockpit for fifteen months.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Relatively fluid, although he does have his share of clumsy moments now an then. Fortunately most of those clumsy moments happen before he's had his morning coffee so when no one's looking.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Not someone that's going to make all the girls faint just by winking at them, but he's certainly attractive in his own way. He's fine with his appearance how it is and certainly going to waste time trying to look "sexy". He's not trying to attract ladies so he's more concerned with being clean and presentable than attractive per se.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Clear, and he definitely gets his skin tone from the German side of his family.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
His hair is brown and so uncontrollable he just kind of lets it do what it wants. He styles it just enough that it won't look like a birds nest, but he can't be bothered with the amount of hair gel it takes to make his hair cooperate. Tried it once, took way too long and made his head feel itchy and gross all day. He does spend the time to keep his sideburns neat and trimmed, but even those just kind of do what they want.
9. What color are his eyes?
Dark blue, but can appear steel blue or even violate depending on the lighting.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
11. What are his chief tension centers?
When he's tense or frustrated he gets a headache and/or his back and shoulder muscles get tense and knotted.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Pretty casual but it's "nice casual". Typically he wears comfortable jeans, a jacket, and a button down shirt. Lose, comfortable clothes but they're not baggy either. Most of his clothes are long sleeved, he doesn't like having a lot of skin exposed. His shirts are bright but they're subdued a bit by his dark colored pants and jacket. Some small variety but he has lots of the same things and always dresses the same general way.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Well fitted and very comfortable.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Depends on what he's doing at the time. If he's in front of the computer he's dressed normally. If he's welding something or running an experiment in the lab he's usually wearing old clothes he doesn't care about too much under his protective gear.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxer-briefs.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Somewhere between this (skip to about 2:45) and this (skip to about 6:06). He speaks perfect English but has a slight Japanese accent.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
When he speaks he usually knows exactly what he wants to say, so he speaks evenly. He speaks loud enough to be heard without being rude. He can sound very loud and firm when he's angry though.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He's from a bilingual household and is fluent in both Japanese and English. Because of this he still has a Japanese accent but it's very slight. He doesn't use a lot of slang but can at times use a lot of jargon.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
English and Japanese. He grew up with them both so he's completely fluent in both.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
He usually speak English, unless someone speaks to him in Japanese. He might also switch to Japanese for a moment if he's extremely surprised or angry.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Words come pretty easy to him. Even when he needs to speak carefully he doesn't really have trouble figuring out what he wants to say.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He speaks fairly eloquently but not so much that it sounds over done. This doesn't usually change, unless he's really surprised.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's a legitimate genius. Very book-smart, but he's pretty street-smart too.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He prefers having the time to deliberate and is much more comfortable when he can go into a given situation with a plan. But he is more than capable of thinking on the fly when necessary.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Usually very logical, although he does trust his gut as well. He can be a bit idealistic but he finds practical ways to accomplish those ideals.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He was able to jump ahead and ended up graduating from high school at a relatively young age. He then proceeded to get college degrees in robotics engineering and biology.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's an expert in robotics, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and microbiology. As for what he's interested in learning more about, pretty much everything.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
A bit introverted but not antisocial.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Even tempered and usually cheerful. He's a bit more melancholy when I play him though, Ulube's treachery and being stuck inside the Devil Gundam has left him with a lot of mental scars.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He used to be relaxed, but now he can be pretty suspicious. He's still pretty relaxed around younger people though. He can't bring himself to be suspicious of children.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight, but he's willing to run if that's the better option.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He doesn't joke around too much himself, but he can be teasing. He does enjoy jokes though and loves a good pun. Although he hates "dirty" humor or spiteful and/or dangerous pranks.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Probably a mild PTSD, but he has a strong will and is able to push through and keep going despite that, so he doesn't show those scars openly too often.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Working with his dad, creating the Ultimate Gundam, and then having it twist into the Devil Gundam after Ulube's betrayal have definitely been things that had a major affect on his character. Still, the most defining thing in his life has been being a big brother.
14. What does he fear?
Betrayal, being tied down or otherwise held immobile, being locked in tiny rooms, especially dark ones. That his research will be used for something horrible again, or that he'd never be able to atone for the hell he inadvertently caused.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
That he can make up for all the death and chaos he caused by creating the Ultimate Gundam Cells. That, somehow, he can see Domon again and have a second chance at being a big brother.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He doesn't want anyone to know about the Devil Gundam, and that whole mess. He's been given a fresh start, and he's going to take it.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
He loves them both very much, and misses them. He feels terribly guilty about what happened to them, and would give anything to go back and change it so that he was the one killed.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
One little brother, Domon. His brother is the most important thing in the world to Kyoji, and he even sacrificed himself to save Domon.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
No other relatives are mentioned, so it's likely they didn't have any contact with the extended family. I headcanon that his grandparents passed away when he was still very young, so he doesn't remember them very well.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
He used to consider Dr. Mikamura as an uncle, before he was betrayed. He still considers Rain to be like a little sister though, even if he can never forgive her father.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
His brother is also his best friend, even still.
6. Does he have other close friends?
He is still very close to Rain, but doesn't really have any other canon friends. Weren't many people his age in their neighborhood, and even young he was too busy with work and family to have many close friends.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He gets along with people fine, but tends to make acquaintances rather than friends. He's usually too busy for a real friendship to build up.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family. But by the time someone earns a close friendship with him he considers them practically family anyway. This is part of why he doesn't have a lot of friends; it takes a lot for him to let you into his family.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope, and likely will never be in a romantic relationship. He certainly wouldn't mind one, but it's not something he ever expects to happen. Not likely to find a woman he could fall in love with that's asexual like him.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
He had a few crushes in high school, but never really acted on them because he knew he couldn't give them what they wanted.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Someone that can relate to him mentally. Whether that be someone that can match his intelligence and really understand and participate when he talks about the research he's so passionate about, or someone that's been through similar hardships and can relate to him emotionally. They would also have to be asexual as well, because if they were interested in sex he'd be afraid he wouldn't be able to make them happy in the end and that he'd just keep them from someone they'd enjoy being with more.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No, and he'll never have any biological children. That said, if he did fall in love with someone he'd want to convince them to adopt children. He doesn't want to adopt on his own though, because he's worried he wouldn't be able to give them enough time and attention for them to be happy. Otherwise, he'll settle for being the best uncle he can.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
He doesn't have any rivals, but he'll always consider Ulube and enemy.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Asexual.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
He did try masturbating once. Felt good mechanically, but felt really damn weird and awkward emotionally, so he's not at all interested in ever trying again.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
He doesn't have any real kind of sexual turn-ons or -offs.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
His birthday is May 20, which makes him a Taurus Gimini cusp. Not a perfect fit, but definitely closer than some of the other sign options.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He believes that everyone has a soul and that their is an afterlife. Also that there is probably something like a god, but he doesn't believe in any organized religion. The way I play him he can pretty much confirm that there is indeed some kind of afterlife, since he remembers being dead even if he can't remember any details.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
He has a very strong moral code, which he got from his parents. The only way he'd ever compromise that code is if sticking to it would somehow put his family in danger.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Very curious and in most cases tolerant. The only time he'd be intolerent of someone else's beliefs are if they clashed with his moral code.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He doesn't trust governments officials, especially high ranking military officers or those otherwise involved in the military. This is because of his experiences with Ulube.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
He lives comfortably. He's a bit poorer now in game than what he's used to, but he doesn't mind so much.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He's upper-middles class. Downgraded a bit from that in the games I play him in, but again he doesn't really mind.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? He lived in a house with his family in canon, but has an apartment in game. It's very clean, although tends to have things to whatever he's currently working on strewn about, giving it a feel of controlled chaos sometimes.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Usually technology-related things, like new tools or computer parts.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's a Gundam scientist, and he's very good at it. He does enjoy it, but is too scared to ever try building one again. Now he mostly works on smaller computers and robots.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
A lot of his "free" time is spent doing "work", but then he really enjoys it so it's not exactly work anymore. He also likes to cook even though he's not fantastic and mainly follows his mom's recipes. Otherwise, you'll probably find him exercising or just enjoying nature and the outdoors.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He likes to cook his own food, which can range from quick pre-prepared meals to more involved, home-cooked recipes he got from his mom. He prefers making a big batch of food while he has time and then get several meals out of it later when he doesn't want anything more involved than heating it back up. He usually eats three meals a day, but sometimes forgets to eat if he's really involved in his research and has had too much coffee, especially if there's no one around to remind him.
